Uber Cup - Emphatic England cruise to victory against Italy

After a nail biting 3-2 victory over rivals Scotland on the opening day of the Uber Cup qualifying event England ladies looked a lot more comfortable against Italy, despite going 1-0 down.

Panuga Riou, making her debut for England, levelled the match at 1-1 after Sarah Walker lost a hard fought 3-setter against the Italian No. 1 Agnese Allegrini.

England then took the lead after the inspirational Kate Robertshaw continued her good form by winning the third of the singles against Silvia Corradi 21-9 21-10.

The doubles matches where totally dominated by the English girls as last year's World Championships wild cards Alex Langley and Lauren Smith brushed aside Gruber and Tania Scanferia 21-7 21-7.

That just left the top English ladies doubles pairing of Mariana Agathangelou and Heather Olver to add the icing to the cake by defeating Corradi and Anna Boveri 21-3 21-14.

England will now face Switzerland as they aim to top the group and reach Friday's quarter finals.
